San Juan Industrial Park Improvements to Come

A grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce will fund efforts to spur future growth at San Juan County Industrial Park, helping to bring more jobs in various energy sectors to San Juan County. Early voting stations are open across the county and the Race 2 Educate Fundraiser for our Farmington Municipal Schools has open registration. In April, the Economic Development Administration, EDA, a part of the U.S. Department of Commerce, announced that San Juan County received a $1.6 million grant to invest in San Juan County Industrial Park to convert it from its focus on energy production companies to a variety of new projects. The grant money is funded in part by the American Rescue Plan as well as the EDA’s Coal Communities Commitment. The Coal Communities Commitment is an effort by the EDA to support coal communities as they recover from the pandemic and to help create new jobs and opportunities both within at preexisting companies, as well as through the creation or expansion of a new energy sector. For more information about the Coal Communities Commitment, visit eda.gov/arpa/coal-communities. Early voting for the New Mexico primary elections has started. If you registered before May 10th and would like to cast your vote in person before regular voting on June 7th, you can do so at one of several locations throughout the county. From May 10th through May 20th, the San Juan County Clerk’s Office will be open for voting Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. From May 21st to June 4th, the San Juan County Clerk’s Office will be open for voting Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Additionally, from May 21st through June 4th, more voting stations will open at the Farmington Museum at Gateway Park, Farmington Public Library, Bloomfield Cultural Center, CCSD Business Office, and the Newcomb Fire Station. Voting will be open Monday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. All voting stations will be closed Monday, May 30th for Memorial Day. If you’ve signed up to receive an absentee ballot, those ballots are now available. The last day to send in your absentee ballot will be June 3rd. Farmington Municipal Schools and the Foundation for Educational Excellence are putting on a 24-hour fundraiser for the district. The Race 2 Educate will run from June 10th through June 11th from 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and will feature three different activities, including the 2x2x24 walk at Piedra Vista High School where participants will walk two miles every two hours for 24 hours. Lions Wilderness Trail will host the 2x2x24 run where participants run two miles every two hours for 24 hours. And if biking’s more your style, you can join others at Anasazi Mountain Bike Trail for a 4x2x24 event, biking four miles every two hours for 24 hours. The entry fee is $75 and all proceeds go directly to Farmington Municipal Schools.
