We’re at the Durango Mesa Park, and this is the DEVO 20 year anniversary, so it’s been 20 years. So the public can come up and park here and then see what all the amenities are about, and then also celebrate our 20 years So it’s kind of a cool little package deal. You are watching the Local News Network brought to you by Serious Texas Barbecue and Durango Gelato. Coffee and Tea. DEVO started out as a middle school program. That Sarah Tescher and Chad Chaney founded and started out with, I think, 8 to 10 kids. For me personally, it’s just cool proof that, like, cool things still can happen, like grass roots, you know, So we have all these little magical things that make it work here. And like really, I’m just glad I was, in the right place at the right time and had cool friends that were all willing to make dreams come true with like, little to no money, just in a thrifty way. It was never about money or growing numbers or being world champs, really just about grabbing whoever was within the neighborhood distance and get them together so they could learn from each other and do whatever. to make their dreams come true together. Today we had a junior fun race, earlier this morning, kids from Push Bike all the way up to fifth grade, and then a short track is going on right now over on the skills park and over there. And then this afternoon we have a five stage Enduro race, mini Enduro race which will include races on the pump track, the skills track, the dual slalom and the upper flow trails as well. So that’s going to be really fun today. So yeah, and then tonight DEVO has a gala going on which to really celebrate our 20 years of of serving kids on bikes in Durango. You know, we probably served thousands and thousands of kids in the last 20 years. So a lot of the old alumni, including my kids, actually flew in for the weekend who did DEVO from kindergarten all the way through. So it’s just been a really fun weekend to just see all the different community members who have made DEVO happen here in Durango. All of the community sponsors their donations to our program and people and everything go to making it affordable for our kids. We have 45 sponsors right now, I think, which is really the heart of what subsidizes our programing. So our programing is actually affordable for all families and anyone who can’t afford that subsidized program gets a scholarship. And so our community is just, I think, unique in how willing they are to support, our community at all levels. And, DEVO is just one reflection of a really amazing, supportive community for sure.
