Durango School District 9-R announced the new location for the administration office after the sale of the historic administration building. The City of Durango’s website domain is changing to better assure the public they are accessing the correct website for information. Kickoff the holiday season with the return of the Durango Business Improvement District’s Rewards Program, and the second annual Gingerbread Lodge at the Black Diamond Lodge. You’re watching the “Local News Roundup,” brought to you by Sky Ute Casino and Kroegers Ace Hardware. I’m Gillian Arnwine. Durango School District 9-R has been in search of a new location for the administration building after listing the historic building downtown for sale. The district announced they had purchased space in the lower level of the Columbine Center in Bodo Park. The site was purchased for $1.1 million, and the district will invest in some alterations to the space, which is currently occupied by Access Health Systems’ Columbine Behavioral Healthcare Clinic. The district has also leased the Parker Warehouse also in Bodo Park for additional departments. The departments moving to the Columbine Center include the superintendent, executive team, communications, curriculum and instruction, student support services, human resources, finance, safety and security, and the Durango Education Foundation. Departments moving to the Parker Warehouse include facilities, custodial, and the technology departments. Durango School District 9-R is planning a party celebrating the 107 years the historic administration building has served education in Durango with an exhibit in May. And in June, there will be a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house at the Bodo Park location. The City of Durango will be changing its web address from a .org domain to a .gov domain in the first quarter of 2024. To ensure the public knows they’re dealing with the official website from the City of Durango, a .gov domain is only available to US government entities and must be approved by the cybersecurity and infrastructure security agency. Whereas .org and .com domains can be registered by anyone for a fee. The new website domain will be durangoco.gov. Durango Business Improvement District’s Rewards Program is back. Launched Noel Night, the rewards program provides incentives to shop local this holiday season. Presented by Alpine Bank and sponsored by Eolus Bar and Dining and the Chamber of Commerce, the program offers tiered rewards for amounts spent in participating local businesses. Gift cards at local businesses are available for those who spend 200, 400 and $750. If you wish to participate, collect your receipts and submit them online once you’ve reached one of the spending tiers. The program is active until all gift cards are claimed. See the Business Improvement District’s Rewards Program page to see how many rewards are left, to see a list of participating businesses and submit your receipts. Do you love gingerbread houses? Do you consider yourself a ginger home aficionado? Stop by the Black Diamond Lodge, formerly the Silver Pick Lodge on Saturday, December 16th for the second annual gingerbread contest and holiday open house from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Take a peek at the gingerbread house contest with categories for adults and children, and we’ll award winners based on public votes. The family-friendly event will include opportunities to tour the lodge and shop wares from Durango Sustainable Goods. Learn more about these and other stories online at durangolocal.news.
