00:00:00,370 –> 00:00:03,130
Inactivity and winter
weather getting you down?
2
00:00:03,130 –> 00:00:05,550
One way to enhance your leisure time
3
00:00:05,550 –> 00:00:08,620
is to learn a new skill,
like target archery,
4
00:00:08,620 –> 00:00:12,410
where you can socially
distance easily indoors or out.
5
00:00:12,410 –> 00:00:14,260
You’re watching the Local
News Network brought
6
00:00:14,260 –> 00:00:16,340
to you by FASTSIGNS of Durango.
7
00:00:16,340 –> 00:00:18,040
I am Wendy Graham Settle.
8
00:00:18,040 –> 00:00:20,730
Unlike a lot of sports
enjoying and excelling
9
00:00:20,730 –> 00:00:22,180
in archery has little to do
10
00:00:22,180 –> 00:00:24,550
with strength, speed, or fitness.
11
00:00:24,550 –> 00:00:26,690
You just have to shoot straight.
12
00:00:26,690 –> 00:00:28,830
It’s a hobby that can provide low-risk fun
13
00:00:28,830 –> 00:00:30,560
for nearly everyone.
14
00:00:30,560 –> 00:00:32,150
The only indoor place to do that
15
00:00:32,150 –> 00:00:35,050
in Farmington is Xpert Archery, a pro shop
16
00:00:35,050 –> 00:00:38,390
and shooting range located
at East Main Street.
17
00:00:38,390 –> 00:00:41,140
I just would like to add
everybody should come try it.
18
00:00:41,140 –> 00:00:42,560
Yeah, we’re here,
19
00:00:42,560 –> 00:00:46,040
when we sell new bows, we
offer free instruction.
20
00:00:46,040 –> 00:00:48,990
We offer free setup, free
knowledge, all that stuff.
21
00:00:48,990 –> 00:00:49,960
So that we can start them
22
00:00:49,960 –> 00:00:52,070
on a really good path, really
good journey in archery.
23
00:00:52,070 –> 00:00:53,620
And it’s just one of
the funnest thing ever.
24
00:00:53,620 –> 00:00:56,180
So if you haven’t tried it, come try it.
25
00:00:56,180 –> 00:00:59,010
Either gender, no age, prevents a person
26
00:00:59,010 –> 00:01:00,960
from easily slipping into the role
27
00:01:00,960 –> 00:01:04,090
of what 18th century
English archery societies
28
00:01:04,090 –> 00:01:06,410
refer to as toxophilites,
29
00:01:06,410 –> 00:01:09,570
that is the lovers of the bow and arrow.
30
00:01:09,570 –> 00:01:11,490
Plus it’s affordable.
31
00:01:11,490 –> 00:01:14,500
I mean, you can start
at $44 and a few arrows,
32
00:01:14,500 –> 00:01:17,950
or you could, our better
kind of wood hunting bows
33
00:01:17,950 –> 00:01:22,200
would be in the neighborhood
of $140 to $240.
34
00:01:22,200 –> 00:01:24,430
On the compound side you would be,
35
00:01:24,430 –> 00:01:27,530
you can get a really
good packaged equipment
36
00:01:27,530 –> 00:01:29,140
for around $400.
37
00:01:29,140 –> 00:01:31,330
And then the sky is the
limit on the compound stuff,
38
00:01:31,330 –> 00:01:33,400
if you get a really high-end target bow
39
00:01:33,400 –> 00:01:34,250
and all the goodies to go
40
00:01:34,250 –> 00:01:37,360
with it, you could be $3,000 or $4,000.
41
00:01:37,360 –> 00:01:39,670
For those lucky New
Mexicans who prefer outdoor
42
00:01:39,670 –> 00:01:41,350
target archery and practice,
43
00:01:41,350 –> 00:01:43,590
San Juan Archers Club
has provided a venue here
44
00:01:43,590 –> 00:01:45,420
since the 1950s.
45
00:01:45,420 –> 00:01:47,670
They offer two 14 yard target field
46
00:01:47,670 –> 00:01:51,100
practice ranges on a 25
acre fenced in property.
47
00:01:51,100 –> 00:01:54,130
While their 2021 tournaments
are on a hold for now,
48
00:01:54,130 –> 00:01:57,240
secretary treasurer, Joan
Arviso says the ranges
49
00:01:57,240 –> 00:01:59,230
are a nice place to fling some arrows
50
00:01:59,230 –> 00:02:00,690
for the whole family.
51
00:02:00,690 –> 00:02:03,570
Handily located in the
Glade Run Recreation Area,
52
00:02:03,570 –> 00:02:05,300
better known as Cherry Hills.
53
00:02:05,300 –> 00:02:08,470
It’s just a few minutes
Northwest of downtown Farmington.
54
00:02:08,470 –> 00:02:11,270

55
00:02:11,270 –> 00:02:13,590
