The Montezuma Heritage Museum opened its doors in October of 2022. We’ve been growing as an organization, basically going from concept and having some collections and folks interested in history into being a full-fledged museum.
You’re watching the Local News Network, brought to you by Builders First Source and Breaking Wax Trading.
Along with our kind of permanent exhibits, we also have a few special exhibits going on this year, celebrating America’s 250 and Colorado’s 150. And then on top of that here in Cortez, it’s the 140th anniversary. So we have two things going on right now. We have the Moments That Made Us, the stories that shaped Montezuma County, pulling out things that happened here that really tie into those themes so you can see the connection from our national history to our local history. And then the other initiative we have going on is actually with KSJD, our local radio station, and it’s called Yesterday’s Stories. And that is a collaboration where we are taking stories from the archives and from historical material and bringing them to life. The moments that made us will be up through December and we’d love for you to come in and check it out and learn a little bit more about our local community. And then Yesterday’s Stories will run through October, but you can actually listen to those anytime online if you go to our website or check out KSJD’s website.
