The Mancos BurroFest is a beloved annual celebration combining burros, art, and community. Now in its seventh year, the event drew over 2,500 people for a day filled with live music, local makers, food trucks, and of course — burros. What started as a small gathering of artist-ranchers in 2019 has grown into the Mancos Creative District’s biggest fundraiser and the largest single sales day for many local businesses.
This year’s theme, the Burro Birthday Bash, celebrates Colorado’s 150th birthday with Colorado-themed obstacles, costumes, and community joy.

Mancos BurroFest is the amazing combination of burros and artists, and it’s been growing since 2019. When Veryl Goodnight started it, she believed in the relationship between an animal and an artist. So we have art, we have food trucks, we’ve got a paint and sip class, we’ve got a beverage pasture full of wine, beer, cider, and rose. Food, a hat bar. We have amazing local and regional artists and makers in the maker market all along Grand Avenue, 32 of ’em, and just so much amazing fun and joy. I think if you see anyone here, you just see them smiling, petting a burro, and that’s what this event’s all about. Community and joy. You’re watching the Local News Network, brought to you by the Lor Foundation and Big O Tires. The Mancos Creative District is the founder or is the supporter of this event, and it is the number one fundraiser for not only the creative district, but economically, it’s the largest sales day for many of the local galleries, restaurants, and then obviously a lot of the local makers come out and artists and participate in the festival, and they’re all selling their wares, selling their beautiful paintings. So it’s just a huge boost to the economy. It’s a very important event for Mancos. So this year’s theme is Burro Birthday Bash, celebrating Colorado’s 150th birthday. And so that is the costume contest theme. You see all of the amazing burros, maybe one walking behind me right now as a, as a birthday cake, and all of our obstacles were also Colorado themed. This year is the seventh annual, and it’s our largest one yet. We had over 2,500 people here today, and I hope that just keeps to be a beautiful tradition that keeps growing.
