The Montezuma County General Election is quickly approaching. Here’s everything you need to know ahead of receiving your ballot. You’re watching the Local News Network brought to you by Keesee Motors and Big O Tires. The Montezuma County General Election will coincide with the Midterm Elections on Tuesday, November 3rd. In Montezuma County, ballots will be mailed out to registered voters by the county clerk on October 5th. You can register online at govotecolorado.gov through October 26th to receive a ballot by mail or visit a voter service and polling center to register and receive a ballot through election day. A 24 hour drop box is available starting October 5th at the Montezuma County Clerk and Recorder’s Office in Cortez. Additional 24 hour drop boxes open October 12th at Dolores Town Hall, Mancus Town Hall, Cortez City Hall, the Lewis Post Office, and the Ute Mountain Ute Tribal Headquarters in Towaoc. Voter service and polling centers where you can register in person, request a replacement ballot, or vote in person are located at Montezuma County Annex 1 in Cortez, the Ute Mountain Ute Community Center in Towaoc, Dolores Public Library, and Mancos Public Library. Dolores and Mancos Public Libraries are open as polling centers on election day only. Ballots must be dropped off by 7:00 PM on election night. If you plan to mail your ballot, your ballot must arrive by election day to count, not just be mailed by then. Postmarks do not count. Make sure to sign your return envelope. An unsigned or mismatched signature could mean your ballot doesn’t count if not corrected. If you’re voting in person or returning a mail ballot for the first time, you will need a valid form of ID such as a driver’s license or passport.
