The La Plata County general election is quickly approaching. Here is everything you need to know ahead of receiving your ballot. You’re watching the Local News Network brought to you by Sky Ute Casino Resort and Fastsigns Durango. The La Plata County general election will coincide with the midterm elections on Tuesday, November 3rd. In La Plata County, ballots will be mailed out to registered voters by the county clerk on October 2nd. You can register online at govotecolorado.gov through October 26th to receive a ballot by mail, or visit a voter service and polling center to register and receive a ballot through election day. Voters can drop off their ballots at four locations in Durango, the La Plata County Clerk and Recorder’s Office, the La Plata County Administration Building, the La Plata County Fairgrounds, and the Fort Lewis Community Concert Hall. Both the clerk recorder’s office and the fairgrounds locations have drive-by ballot drop boxes. Voters in Bayfield can drop off their ballot at Bayfield Town Hall and Ignacio residents can bring their ballot to Farmer’s Fresh Market. Voter service and polling centers where you can register in person are also available at Pine River Library in Bayfield and the Southern Ute Cultural Center in Ignacio. In Durango, the Clerk and Recorder’s Office and Fort Lewis Community Concert Hall also serve as voter service and polling centers. Ballots must be dropped off by 7:00 PM on election night. If you plan to mail your ballot, it must be mailed by October 26th. Your ballot must arrive by election day to count, not just mailed by then. Postmarks do not count. If you’re voting in person or returning a mail ballot for the first time, you will need a valid form of ID such as a driver’s license or passport.
