El Pomar Foundation announced its grant recipients, including 10 organizations in Southwest Colorado. The historic Cortez coloring book is now available for pickup or download. The Cortez and Dolores Public Libraries are amping up their events this month for their summer reading programs. El Pomar Foundation approved over $80,000 in grants to organizations in Southwest Colorado during the Foundation’s May trustees meeting. The organizations include 10 nonprofits and government agencies. El Pomar is one of Colorado’s oldest private foundations and contributes a quarter of a million dollars in grants annually. The historic Cortez coloring book is now available for pickup at the Montezuma Heritage Museum and Cortez Cultural Center and to download online. The book honors historic sites, spaces, and events in Cortez. You can buy a copy for $5 plus tax or download a free version on the City of Cortez website. The digital version includes one submission from each artist, the youngest being six years old, while the print book includes only selected pages. The 2024 summer reading challenge is underway at the Cortez Public Library. Pennants are still available for pickup at the library’s front desk, which can be returned with the completed activities by Friday, July 26th for a chance to win prizes. Activities for children include weekly story times every Thursday through the end of the month, and Will Parker music on July 11th. Teen and adult activities include several movie viewings throughout July with the first showing on Wednesday, July 10th. The Dolores Public Library’s summer reading program is also hosting a variety of events this month with the program ending on July 29th. Both youth and adults can still sign up to participate and be entered to win prizes for their summer reading. Adventure Begins at Your Library activities will take place on Fridays and Saturdays through the month of July. Events include an All About Trout presentation on July 5th, cookie decorating on the 12th, a falconry presentation on the 19th, and Escape Rooms on the 26th and 27th.
