The dog days of summer are finally here, and what better way to spend your time than enjoying live music at the Farmington Museum, or catch one of the Four Corners Music Theatre Company’s productions. Or this weekend, sign up to learn about local agricultural practices with the Agricultural Science Center. You’re watching the “Local News Roundup,” brought to you by CMIT Solutions and Boon’s Family Thai Barbecue. I’m Hayley Opsal. Farmington Museum is proud to host the 20th annual Summer Terrace Concert Series. Catch free live music at the Farmington Museum every Saturday from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. With a variety of bands in the lineup, there’s sure to be a group everyone will enjoy. Come and dance to the funky soul jazz of Fertz-X-Tet on July 16th, and support the San Juan College Concert Band on July 23rd. Country duo Grant and Randy will finish the month of July. For more information or to see who’s playing, visit farmingtonmuseum.org. The Agricultural Science Center at Farmington will have its annual field day Friday, July 15th at the New Mexico State University Agricultural Science Center. Registration opens at 8:30 am, and the first tour will begin at 9:00 am. Events throughout the day will include a xeriscape demonstration, garden self-guided walking tour, vineyard trials, cherry, apple, goji berry, and jujube trials, weather station monitoring overview, soil testing, informational booths, and more. A barbecue boxed lunch will be provided, along with live music and a raffle. For more information, visit the website at farmingtonsc.nmsu.edu. The Four Corners Musical Theatre Company opened its summer season with “Pirates of Penzance” on July 7th. The musical by Gilbert and Sullivan is a hilarious farce of sentimental pirates, bumbling policemen, dim-witted young lovers, and an eccentric major general, according to the Four Corners Musical Theatre Company. The performance will run Thursday through Sunday at the Lions Wilderness Amphitheater. Shows begin at 8:00 pm, and the play is scheduled to run through July 31st. To purchase tickets, visit fmtn.org/shows. San Juan County Public Works closed road 7500 between US Highway 550 and New Mexico Highway 371 on June 30th due to an unstable road surface. The recent rainstorms have caused the roadway to be damaged from washouts and saturated soil. The road is closed indefinitely while crews repair the road, but crews have to wait until the ground is fully dried to begin any work. Plan to take alternate routes in the meantime. San Juan County Public Works will announce when the road will reopen. That’s it for this week’s “Local News Roundup.” I’m Hayley Opsal.
