Whether utilitarian clothing or beautiful works of art, Dee and Textiles reflect the artists who made them in the culture and history of the Navajo people. Fort Lewis College graduate and contemporary Navajo textile artists. CIO Argon has curated an exhibit of weavings called from the Fringes, Dee Textiles that Disrupt Now on display at the Center of Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College. The exhibit features a selection of textiles from the internationally renowned Durango Collection, as well as contemporary works by Argon, his mother, ar Vita, argon, and argon. Students from Dene College from the fringes highlights textiles that display a range of technical and design oddities that defy more than traditional designs. The exhibit is open from noon to 4:00 PM Monday through Friday at the Center of Southwest Studies. It runs through November 13th. Visit the Center’s website for more information. Build a palooza. What in the palooza might that be? It’s a community celebration to benefit Habitat for Humanity of La Plata County’s new initiative to expand inclusion, equity, and representation in its building programs. The festival runs from three to 9:00 PM on Saturday, September 27th at Buckley Park. The event features live music from three bands performances by the Secret Circus Society, a bouncy house in games for kids, food and artisan vendors, a beer garden sponsored by Ska Brewing and a non-profit carnival. Participants are encouraged to wear built to wild costumes like construction, chic, jungle tools, or whatever they’d like to interpret The theme. Tickets are $25 for adults. Children under 12 will be admitted free to purchase tickets or to learn more. Visit the Habitat for Humanity of La Plata County’s website. Durango and Purgatory Resort hosted the first ever International Mountain Bike Championship 40 years ago in the area, as expected to be named host for the event again in 2030. In anticipation of Durango’s designation, the city of Durango will host a bike parade at 5:30 PM on Friday, September 26th. The parade lineup will begin at 4 45 at the intersection of Main Avenue and 12th Street. The cycling will start after the city announces whether Durango will be the championship location. While final championship site has yet to be selected, the city and its partners signed a contract with Union Cyclists International in August. The international organization is the governing body for sports cycling and overseas international events. The championship is a five day competition with 800 cyclists from 55 countries. According to a city of Durango news release, the 40th annual championship is expected to draw as many as 30,000 spectators to the community. With more than 50 million who will watch on televised, broadcast and social media, the City’s Prosperity Office estimates the event will bring in $30 million in spending and tax revenues of one to $2 million.
