We’re hosting our second annual Read-a-thon fundraiser from April 10th to April 20th. And it’s this really fun community event that just gets folks talking about the books that they’re reading and
Reading on display. You are watching the local News Network brought to you by the Payroll Department in Serious Texas Bar-B-Q.
Participants can sign up to participate in the read-a-thon and they’ll track their time reading and the books that they read, but they’ll also sign up for a shift reading for an hour or two hours in the front window of Maria’s Bookshop. They can have their friends and family sponsor them. So it’s basically like, like a run for a cause or a walk for a cause. But in this case it’s a read for a cause. So participants will get sponsorships or donations from their own communities and all of those donations will go to supporting our reading room program. So the reading room is our community space and reading Nook and completely free bookshop for youth in Durango. Last year we raised $20,000 for the reading room and so this year we have a goal of raising $25,000 for the reading room and all donations up to $10,000 will be matched by Maria’s Bookshop. If you can’t participate in the Read-a-thon but you want to support it, you can donate to sponsor an individual reader or you can donate in support of all of the readers. It’s really wonderful to get to see folks read again public, which I feel like happens less and less You. You see fewer people out reading and you know we’re all on our phones and and having busy lives, but I think that having people in the window reading is a really great reminder to just like slow down.
