Aztec is ready to celebrate fall with the museum Fall Market and Chamber of Commerce Fall Festival. Save a life, and donate blood at the San Juan Regional Medical Center and Farmington Rotary Club blood drive. And San Juan County has received a $66,000 grant for the creation of a long-term outdoor recreation plan. You’re watching the Local News Roundup, brought to you by Home2 Suites and The Big Idea Makerspace at San Juan College. I’m Haley Opsal. Come celebrate fall in Aztec at the Pioneer Village with the Aztec Museum Fall Market on October 14th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Shop antiques, arts and crafts, baked goods, and more. Cross the street to join the Aztec Chamber of Commerce with the Fall Festival. Live music will be provided by Twisted Rebel and Julie & the Boyz. With over 50 vendors and a grand prize raffle, there is something for everyone. The first 100 kids will receive solar eclipse classes for the Ring of Fire eclipse. Brush up on your Cornhole skills, and sign up for the Cornhole tournament to round up your fall fun. San Juan Regional Medical Center and Farmington Rotary Club have partnered to host a blood drive. The blood drive will be on Monday, October 9th and Tuesday, October 10th at San Juan Regional Medical Center’s Cafe La Ventana. Appointments are required. Sign up for your 15-minute slot online with Vitalant. Monday slots are between 12:30 and 5:00 p.m., and Tuesdays are between 7:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The New Mexico Economic Development Department’s Outdoor Recreation Division announced that San Juan County is the recipient of a grant of $66,000 to craft a long-term, comprehensive plan for outdoor recreation and trails. The plan will be designed to last for 20 years, possibly the first plan of this type. The grant requires a 50% match from the county. That cost includes hiring a planning firm. While similar to the comprehensive development plans that both the cities of Farmington and Aztec have adopted, this plan will focus on outdoor recreation. There will be opportunities for public input and plans to work closely with officials from Farmington, Aztec, Bloomfield, Kirkland, the Bureau of Land Management, and the Navajo Nation. While the grant doesn’t necessarily mean funding for proposed projects, it will help make San Juan County more eligible and competitive for future grants.
