The Echo Food Bank Donation Drive has netted another success with the city of Bloomfield, claiming the coveted Mr. Potato Head trophy this year. Christmas tree and firewood permits are available to purchase at the Farmington BLM Field Office and ready your house for the 60th annual Christmas Lighting Contest, co-sponsored by the city of Farmington and Farmington Noonday Civitans. You’re watching the local News Roundup, brought to you by Distilled Beer, Wine and Spirits, and Northern Edge Casino. I’m Gillian Arnwine. This year’s Echo Food Bank Donation Drive collected more than 18,000 pounds of food between the cities of Aztec, Bloomfield, Farmington, and the greater San Juan County. The friendly competition averages food weight per employee to determine the winner of the Mr. Potato Head trophy. This year, the City of Bloomfield claimed the prize with a total of 26 pounds of food per 79 employees, the city of Aztec collected 317 pounds of food, Farmington netted almost 2000 pounds of food, and finally, San Juan County collected almost 14,000 pounds. Over the past 13 years, the Echo Food Bank Donation Drive has collected almost 115 tons of food. Echo is always accepting food donations, especially for holiday food boxes. Drop off donations at 401 South Commercial Avenue in Farmington. Christmas tree permits are available from the Farmington BLM Field Office from now until December 24th. The $5 permits are available to purchase in person or online. A map of dedicated locations for eligible pinon and juniper trees will be provided along with a haul tag. Make sure to attach the haul tag to your tree while transporting it home. Wood harvesting is available at designated BLM land in San Juan, Rio Ariba, and Sandoval Counties for dead and downed pinion and juniper trees. Fines for harvesting wood of any sort on BLM Land without a permit start at $300. You can also result in the confiscation of wood harvesting tools and vehicles. The 60th annual Christmas lighting contest is now live. Co-sponsored by the city of Farmington and Farmington’s Noonday Civitans. Enter your holiday light display for the chance to win a cash prize. Entry forms are available for pickup at the Farmington Museum or online through December 18th. Judging will take place December 21st at 6:00 PM with cash prizes for first, second, and third place. Mayor Nate Duckett will be on the lookout for his three Mayors Choice Awards. Learn more about these and other stories online at farmingtonlocal.news.
