Local content creator Francisco Sandoval was in the right place at the right time as he was taking footage of Bridal Veil Falls. He was able to catch video of the huge boulder that came crashing down the road, hit another rock, and stopped just short of where he was standing. Bridal Veil Falls Road this week.
County crews have since cleared the road,
but Sandoval was able to capture the
incident on film and shared
his story with the Local News Network Telluride.That was how the giant boulder broke away from the mountain. I was filming the Bridal Veil Waterfall; I was getting some great shots for a video for you guys, and we just heard something like, We heard something crack, but we thought a car had flipped over.
Loud noises could be heard from the top of the mountain, so I flew the drone back to film the area,
to see if there was a car there, a rollover or an accident—anything.
And suddenly we see this rock break loose and start falling at a strong speed and it was when it hit
that rock that it lost speed.
Otherwise, the rock would have come straight at us.
But what were the odds that that rock would have come straight at us?
And the rock was huge—look, I mean, it was a massive rock.
And look how far away we are from the rock.
That was yesterday’s story.
I had never seen anything
so impressive—a rock so giant rolling down the hill.
But anyway, these things happen—that’s
just the way nature works. Just imagine the people who were up there.
I’m right here right now
and there are so many tourists.
Yesterday, because it was snowing,
the weather wasn’t great, and there weren’t many people around.
But imagine if there had been people
there. What would have happened? Maybe someone there
walking uphill—what a scare they must have had.
We were down below when that happened.
