Bagpipes Kilts Dance and Classic Competitions came together to honor and celebrate an ancient culture, never to be forgotten. On October 4th and 5th, Riverside Park in Aztec became home to the Aztec Highland Games and Celtic Festival athletes, vendors, and musicians from around the four corners gathered to celebrate Celtic culture. The Highland Games feature traditional Celtic events such as the Caber Toss, where athletes attempt to flip logs and over end. The logs can be up to 19 feet tall and weigh over 150 pounds in the sheaf toss. Athletes try to toss a 20 pound burlap bag over a hurdle using only a pitchfork behind their back. Other events include the Scottish Hammer, throw weight for distance, weight for height and more. The festival also features live pipe and Celtic bands and a Highland dance competition throughout both days. The Aztec Highland Games and Celtic Festival is the premier event that celebrates Celtic culture in the four corners region.
