Nutritional-Base Approach to Food Distribution

The Southern Ute Food Distribution Program offers nutritionally-balanced food packages to families in need. Ignacio Community Library wants to see your art on display for its summer. The Southern Ute Food Distribution Program, part of the Southern Ute Tribe, provides commodity foods to low-income Southern Ute families living on or near the Southern Ute Indian Reservation as well as low-income Native American households residing in its approved service areas. The program is designed to encourage and support the journey to better nutrition within the community it serves by promoting healthy food choices and physical activity. Basing its food and nutrition benchmarks on a new Nutrition Enrichment Program, one of the goals of the food distribution program is to safeguard the general health and wellbeing of low-income families. Every month, participating families receive a package of food with frozen meats, canned fruits and vegetables, pasta, cereals, grains, beans, fruits, veggies, and more to provide a balanced diet. The food distribution program is always happy to provide for more individuals and families needing food assistance, find the application online at the Southern Ute Tribe website. The Ignacio Community Library wants to give you the chance to display your artwork. Whether you’re into photography, sculpture, watercolors, or collage, take advantage of the chance to showcase your skills at the library’s summer exhibit. The theme for this summer is We Are Water. And the library asks that your submission showcases the relationships with water in the Southwest. Find the submission form online or by stopping by the library. The exhibit begins July 10th and will run through October 6th. Looking to join a new book club? How about one that discusses the latest book over a freshly brewed cup of coffee? Books and brews might just be the right fit. The book club meets once a month to discuss books over hot cups of tea or coffee, and is open to everyone. Mark your calendar for the next meeting on Friday, July 7th where the book, “The Book Charmer” by Karen Hawkins will be discussed at 9:00 AM at Baked in Bayfield.
