The City of Durango Municipal Court is now offering in-person court-certified Spanish translation once a month. Gear up for a 4th of July celebrations with everything from pie eating contests to ice cream socials, and of course, the beloved 4th of July pancake eating contest. And wrap up the week with summer music camp at Tico Time Resort, hosted by Durango based band, Elder Grown. The City of Durango Municipal Court has contracted with a court-certified Spanish translator for cases that require translation to ensure that everyone has equal access and aid in court decisions. Gene Lyle, an interpreter for federal immigration court in Denver will be available one day a month to provide in-person Spanish interpretation. Defendants requiring Spanish translation can now request that their court days be scheduled on the days that Lyle will be present. The municipal court will continue to offer a call-in service for days that Lyle is not available, or if a language other than Spanish is required. The first week of July is rapidly approaching, and there are a plethora of activities all week to celebrate the 4th of July. Kick off the celebration Saturday, July 1st at the La Plata County Fairgrounds with the Independent Food Truck celebration, followed by the Oscars pie eating contest before moving to 11th Street Station for a silent disco. From pancakes to ice cream, apple pie to free movies, find something for every age and family Sunday and Monday as you gear up for the main event. On Tuesday, July 4th, start your day at Buckley Park with pancakes, a 5K and live music. Enjoy an outdoor picnic lunch before heading downtown for the 4th of July parade. And find your spot to enjoy the 4th of July Street Dance and Drone Show. Make sure to snap a selfie of you and your friends and family in your red, white and blue gear at locations around town, and tag Visit Durango on Instagram for a chance to win $100. The Durango-based band, Elder Grown, invites you to Elder Grown’s Summer Camp, a one-night music festival on Saturday, July 8th, highlighting live music and talents from a variety of different groups. The goal of the festival is to provide a platform for artists of all backgrounds and music styles to showcase their art and music in the backdrop of the Animus River at Tico Time Resort.
