Celebrate the end of the school year with numerous student achievements from Ignacio School District 11Jt, learn how to grow your own food in your kitchen. at the Garden to Kitchen event at the Ignacio Community Library, and the Southern Ute Indian Tribe has announced the activation of the tribal broadband network that’ll bring high-speed internet to Ignacio and the Reservation. Ignacio School District 11Jt students and staff celebrate a variety of accomplishments and awards. Five students and staff received Masonic Awards. Lincoln Gillespie and Cadence Vezeau received the Junior Boy and Girl Masonic Award. Willow Schulz received the Masonic Scholarship Award. Bethany Bleth received the Teacher Masonic Award, and Brianna Telamonte received the IMS Teacher Masonic Award. Elliot Hendren received first place for his welding structure at the State SkillsUSA competition. Hendren and will attend the national competition in Atlanta at the beginning of June. And four student athletes have all signed to compete at the collegiate level. Solymar Cosio has signed to play volleyball at Benedictine College in Kansas, and fellow teammate Kacey Brown has signed to play at Trinity Baptist College in Florida. Corey Gomez signed for track and cross country at Lake Forest College in Illinois. And Taryn McWhorter has signed to compete in rodeo at Ranger College in Ranger, Texas. Ever wanted to grow your own kitchen garden but don’t know where or how to start? The Garden to Kitchen class at Ignacio Community Library will teach you how to build a container garden full of tasty treats to use in your cooking. Samples of tasty treats will be available to try. All participants will leave with recipes and their container garden. Pre-registration is required. You can find the form on the library’s website. On April 30th, the Southern Ute Indian Tribe announced the activation of its new broadband network. The project offers residents in the Reservation and businesses in Ignacio to access high-speed internet with service provided to over 100 tribal member homes. The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the severity of the lack of internet access on the Reservation, impacting school, jobs, healthcare, and more. The Tribal Council prioritize bridging the digital divide as a critical infrastructure/ Construction will continue over the next few years to continue expanding network connectivity.
