Fort Lewis Women’s Golf has just wrapped up its fall season here in Durango, a Hillcrest golf course, placing third at the Nick Turner Invitational. Today, we’re going to be taking a look back at the Skyhawk season under new head coach Todd Henderson and highlighting the team’s top performances this season. You’re watching the Local News Network brought to you by Mercy Sports Medicine and the Payroll Department. The Skyhawks opened their fall season on September 14th and 15th at the RJGA shootout at Estrella in Goodyear, Arizona. Fort Lewis finished tied for seventh out of 16 teams. Isabel Bustillos and freshman Paola Guerrero led the team both tying for 25th individually. The following week, the Skyhawks traveled to Utah for the Westminster Invitational. Fort Lewis moved up the leaderboard to fifth out of 14 teams. Freshman Paola Guerrero led the way, earning her first ever top 10 finish by placing eighth individually at three over par.
She’s been a fantastic asset to the team. Obviously, getting a top 25 in the first event and then a top 10 in the second event. Individually she’s, yeah, she’s knocked it out of the park.
As the team continues to grow and improve each year, head coach Henderson is building on the foundation and helping the Skyhawks take the next step with strong performances throughout the season.
The fall season was a really good foundation for the team and myself. Going into the spring you know, we can definitely build on that in terms of being more open and honest about certain situations, whether it’s mentalities on the golf course swing techniques, course management, that kind of stuff. Just being able to have that open and honest communication.
